Procedure for moving cast from holding to Cat Adopt:

  1. Weighed- kittens must weigh 1.8 lbs before they are eligible for adoption. There are several litters of kittens that we give a dose of NutriCal each day to help them put on weight. Kim says if they're under weight they won't do well in the home and may die. They are too weak to go home so we nurture them to a healthy weight.
  2. Dewormed- we use an equine dewormer, it must be the same product just cheaper because it's sold in mass quantities, it's a yellow chalky substance.
  3. checked for fleas- if they have fleas or flea dirt we give them a flea pill. Moving fleas into the adoption room would cause problems.
  4. Update their files- We re-sex the animals, sometimes the animal control officers miss-sex the kittens. They're kitten parts are so small and the officers don't have time to spend sexing kittens. We may also change the age.
  5. Collared- We have papery collars, similar to the bracelets you get at bars or theme parks. We write the number on a blue or red collar depending on the sex of the animal.
  6. Take their picture- When upload the picture into the animal's file and the animal is switched over to "available" the picture is automatically uploaded to the internet site so people can see the animals we have available for adoption.
